Contamination is the #1 cause of major problems in fibre networks. When two fibres are mated together, a key requirement is to ensure light passes from fibre to fibre without excessive loss or back reflections.
What remains challenging is maintaining a pristine end face. A single particle mated into the core of a fiber can cause significant insertion loss, back reflection, and even equipment damage.

OTDRs are used to characterise optical links. They show a graphical perspective of the fibre trace signature and assist in determining link quality. OTDRs will detect and locate anomallies in the fibre indentifying faults due to
