This is a passive instrument that does not disrupt any utility, communication or electric line while in use.
The Maggie and GA-92XTD models will show you the Magnetic Positive and Negative polarity from the ends of the object which is useful when locating joins in a long Ferrous pipe or conduit. The SPOT model is audio only, no visual screen to show you the magnetic polarity.
Because most industries are looking for such things like survey pins, steel pits, steel pipe joins ETC the Schonstedt locators will only locate what they are looking for because the material is usually a ferrous metal. Therefore, they will not pick up other non-ferrous objects like tin cans etc.
The Radiodetection RD312 Metal Detector will pick up all ferrous and non-ferrous metals but only reach depths down to a maximum of 76cm. For Example, someone who is looking for steel survey markers may end up digging up an aluminium can if they were to use the RD312 over a Schonstedt locator.
